Eagle Creek ParkEagle Creek Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the nation, engulfing two state nature preserves involving 3,900 acres of wooden terrain and meadows, as well as 1,300 acres of water. With the vast amount of nature and different habitats to discover, the park aspired to develop a center for the study and exploration of the diversity of its natural world. Eagle Creek Park turned to MurphyCatton to help create the Earth Discovery Center. This center is divided into four main sections, each describing a different area of the park: meadow, forest, reservoir, and wetland. MurphyCatton developed interactive and visual features for all four segments of the center, and also created a mural that surrounds all four areas. The exhibit spaces incorporate four touch screens for the visitor to interact with technology while learning about the Eagle Creek habitat. MurphyCatton also incorporated several monitors to display video demonstration of the evolving habitats, for example, visitors can watch the transition of seasons on the monitor in the meadow habitat. Plant and vegetation are represented across different environments, and when exploring the plant life further, visitors discover native wildlife to the park. Informational reader rails separate the guests from the untouchable exhibit displays, and provide knowledge about the park. Live animals are also incorporated into the exhibits, housed in researched, replicated living conditions of their natural habitat, within aquariums and tanks for guests to witness animal adaptation and behavior.
