Field of Play Exhibition, Strong National Children's Museum of PlayStrong National Children's Museum of Play could not be complete without an exhibition totally devoted to its message - play! Everything in this exhibit is hands-on and exploration is encouraged. This exhibition also involves a multi-media demonstration, and informs of the importance of play in every child's life. This is accomplished through the demonstration of six major components of play: anticipation, surprise, pleasure, understanding, strenght and poise. MurphyCatton embraced the museum's mission and delivered it by giving a playground of learning creativity. Children are free to create within a giant kaleidoscope, designing their own patterns, using pulleys to engineer and power balls through the cannon, "driving" a drag race car, keeping their balance in a slanted house, climbing the rock wall, relaxing in the Jellyfish Jungle, and playing in a multitude of environments. Strong National Children's Museum of Play chose MurphyCatton to provide engineering and consultation during the design development phase. This process included the prototyping of many of the interactive elements. Naturally, this allowed MurphyCatton latitude in the engineering phase to add details that enhanced Strong's design. MurphyCatton also fabricated the interactive elements at their corporate headquarters in Walton, Kentucky. All follow-up remediation and service are handled directly out of the same facility. The Strong Museum also used MurphyCatton's engineering and architectural skills in fabricating the entry icon for the Field of Play Gallery. The gallery logo spanned the glass that isolates the gallery, and overhangs a moving sculpture that incorporates some of the Strong Museum's archival collection. |
