Energee! Exhibition, Kentucky Science Center & PlanetariumIn late 2009, the East Kentucky Science Center & Planetarium (EKSC) began the process of creating a traveling science exhibition for the students and general public of the Eastern Kentucky community and beyond. The exhibition was developed in the interest of providing engaging hands-on experiences as it promotes the "life-long" learning of science and math concepts for visitors. Given an extremely tight time frame as well as exhibits that needed to be made with strict specifications, EKSC decided to partner with industry leading exhibit fabrication firm, MurphyCatton. The 2,500 square foot exhibition included 12 individual components designed to teach energy concepts such as: What Energy Is, Where Energy Comes From, How Energy Changes Form, Where We Find Energy Sources and other examples that incorporate the use of coal, natural gas, solar, and wind energy sources. The exhibit modules included materials such as wood grain laminate, printed fabric, and acrylic vitrines all lending to light-weight pack-up for traveling and enabling renters such as librarians and teachers to set-up with ease. This allowed lower traveling costs, no installation costs and more time-efficient use of the exhibition between venues. With so much to consider with each element of the exhibition, MurphyCatton delivered a high-quality, low-cost and incredibly flexible exhibition to EKSC in impressive timing. The contract for the project was awarded to Murphycatton in August of 2009, and the exhibition was developed seamlessly for its installation date of December 15, 2009, just before its January ceremony opeing in 2010. |
