National Museum of Wildlife ArtThe National Museum of Wildlife Art engaged MurphyCatton to assist with the design and implementation of an acoustic treatment. The use of natural building materials, wooden ceiling, slate floor, stone and gypsum walls resulted in a very "live" space. The challenge for MurphyCatton was to incorporate a large volume of acoustic panels that would provide a dampening effect for the space, making it more conducive to after hour events and hosting large groups. The result was designing two different finishes of acoustic panels. The first was a series of panels that matched the colors of the architectural gypsum walls. These panels were applied to the horizontal and vertical surfaces where applicable. The second was a series of themed acoustic panels that would blend into the existing architecture. These panels took on the shape of Native American animal shapes, which were then applied to the ceiling and over the top of the natural wood. The result was a successful reduction in sound, allowing the space to function "after hours" or for the larger tour groups. |
