Sue T. Rex Traveling Exhibition, The Field MuseumSue T. Rex is the largest, most complete fossil remains of a T. Rex ever unearthed. MurphyCatton teamed up with The Field Museum of Chicago to produce two identical traveling exhibitions. Each exhibit featured a casting of the "Colossal Fossil" of Sue that measured over 45 feet from nose to tail. In addition to the stage that featured Sue, there were 3,000 square feet of interactive and interpretive exhibits. A large part of this story was the evaluation work that was done with The Field Museum during the development of the interactive elements. Twice during the fabrication process, MurphyCatton brought in local school groups to test the interactives. During the schematic design phase, the children interacted with a full scale prototype of the actual mechanism. The final evaluation was at the 90% fabricaiton completion level. In the words of The Field Museum this process made the exhibit "1,000" times better. Finally, MurphyCatton held a preview at their facility for the host museums who had already contracted for the exhibit. The corporate sponsor, McDonalds, used this viewing as a marketing photo opportunity. |
